Did Magellan really circumnavigate the globe?

Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan is famous for two things: he was the first person to circumnavigate the globe; and he was killed in the Philippines during the circumnavigation. But if he was killed during the trip, then he didn’t really make it around the world, did he? Nope, Buzzkillers. He more or less died half-way.

His ship and crew made it, however, and Magellan’s second-in-command was the one who completed the circumnavigation. But since Ferdinand was the captain and leader of the expedition, he gets the credit.
